RUNNING IN THE BURBS - TRAINING OUR COMMUNITY

Funded in Cycle 8

Running in the Burbs is a community-based running group that runs out of Jells Park in Glen Waverley. We focus on getting people off the couch and promote a healthy, active lifestyle through running and training for events such as the Herald Sun Run for the Kids. Our voluntary coaches have helped over 120 people achieve their fitness goals with substantial growth over the past 3 years, so we need to train extra voluntary coaches to Level 1 Community Athletics Coaching certification.

The total project cost isÂ… $1 760.00

Athletics Victoria Level 1 Community Athletics Coaching Course at a cost of $220 each.

This qualification is designed for community running groups and allows participants to be nationally accredited as a community coach to engage beginner athletes in long-term participation. None of our candidates are professional trainers.

The $1,000 grant will be used to put 8 of our voluntary run leaders through a Level 1 Community Athletics Coaching Course run by Athletics Vic at a cost of $220 each to benefit our running community

The balance of the funds will be sourced from fundraising activities of the club and from members contributions. None of our run leaders are professional trainers and this is for the group benefit

It's an awesome club that welcomes young and old, fit and newbies. The club gives great advise to health, fitness and well being all done by volunteers who spend their free time researching Fitness and Science. The club has scheduled training days and I was welcomed with open hands. I'm new to the area and very much enjoy the social aspect of the club and the professional training tips given by the volunteer coaches.

Training up run leaders with the relevant qualification will be very rewarding for those who have been volunteering their own time and service to support this group thus far! It will also be very beneficial for both the members of this group and the community to continue to promote a safe and friendly place for an active lifestyle.
