Let the children play: promoting inclusive and creative play (Sunnyside Kindergarten)

We would like to create a ‘loose parts play area’ in our kindergarten space which will encourage children of all abilities in our community to experiment, problem solve, construct and engage in interesting and cognitively high levels of play. The space will display materials that invite children to manipulate and tinker with the materials and promotes cooperative and inclusive play.

The major costs associated with the project are

The major costs will be the shelving to house and appropriately display the 'loose part' materials so that they are accessible to all the children. Outdoor rugs where the children can be comfortable on the covered concrete floor. The rugs will define the space to move, carry, adapt and manipulate the loose parts in multiple ways. Outdoor cushions to be used in the covered area for rest, contemplation, or to be comfortable whilst constructing. Large wooden blocks and other various loose parts such as rocks, sticks, ropes, leaves, nuts, fabric, shells, beads and recycled goods. Baskets to hold the loose parts on the shelves and contain them in a neat manner.

The $1,000 grant will be used

We would spend the grant money on some shelving to appropriately display the loose parts materials and invite the children to create and manipulate them, large outdoor rugs to make the space more comfortable on the concrete flooring and outdoor cushions.

How they raise the rest of the funding

The rest of the funding will be obtained from other grant sources and also from our own community fundraising efforts.
