Moreland Primary School – Buddy Bench
The Buddy Bench is an initiative of the Moreland Primary student leadership. In their words, “the Buddy Bench is a place where new or lonely students can sit down before another student will come and play/chat with them. We do an amazing job of being inclusive at this school, but there are always some new kids who want some friends.”
The major costs associated with the project are
The costs for the project will include the bench, paints for decorating it, landscaping, tree planting and a memorial plaque, dedicating the bench to the memory of Nadine O'Riley, an MPS Parent. The students said: "We decided to do this because we all knew that she loved including people, and the Buddy Bench will help us do the same."
The $1,000 grant will be used
The $1000 will be spent on the Bench and a tree to provide shade, making it a desirable place to sit.
How they raise the rest of the funding
The students are planning a fun run in which students complete laps of their school environment. Families and friends of students will sponsor students for a per-lap amount or pledge a set dollar amount.Prep, Grade 1/2 - Laps of the ovalGrade 3/4 - Laps of the oval and grass area Grade 5/6 and Teachers - Laps of the perimeter of the school All funds raised will go toward the Buddy Bench.
