The major costs associated with the project are

Each solar buddy costs $30 for the school to purchase, and the minimum order is 25 lights ($750). The school hopes to purchase 34 lights (total cost $1020) so that the Grade 5/6 students can complete the light projects in groups of 2 or 3 students. More information about Solar Buddy can be found here: https://solarbuddy.org/

The $1,000 grant will be used

The entire $1000 will go towards the purchase of the solar buddy kits, as detailed above. The teachers will provide the education program that accompanies this project. Children will learn about energy poverty and its limitations, the science of renewable energy, and how a simple solution - like a solar light - can make a difference to the educational outcomes of children living in the developing world.

How they raise the rest of the funding

The school will use fundraising (parent raised) funds from our school fete to make up any shortfall in the funding of this project (including if we decide to purchase more solar buddies than the numbers detailed above).
